Steve Matson, will be leading a field trip to the Silver Peak Range on May 18th.
Here is his invitation to join him and his family in Fish Lake Valley on May 18, 2025:
"We will be meeting at 10 AM at the Fish Lake Valley Hot Well. We plan to camp in the area beginning Friday May 16. Join us for camping if you care to.
We plan to explore the area immediately adjacent to the hot well. There we hope to see Zeltnera nevadensis (nevada centaury) and Chloropyron tecopense (tecopa bird's beak). From there we plan to drive into the Silver Peak Range to the east to search for Eriogonum tiehmii, a very rare plant threatened by planned mining activity.
Directions: turn east from Nevada 264 on Hot Ditch Road, about 12 north of the town of Dyer, or about 12 miles south of Highway 6. This is about a 1.5 hour drive from Bishop over Montgomery Pass or 1.7 hour drive from Big PIne over Westgard Pass. The Hot Well is about 8 miles east of Nevada 264 on a well graded gravel road.
Write me at ssmat@sbcglobal.net if you have questions.
