Churchill Narrows Field Trip

Our leader for this trip will be John Weiser and our goal to see Eriogonum diatomaceum! This Eriogonum is a rare endemic restricted to the diatomaceous deposits of the Churchill Narrows area in Lyon County, NV. There are many other interesting plants to see growing on these unique soils. Eriogonum lemmonii, Nama aretioides, Phacelia fremontii, Abronia turbinate, Eschscholzia minutiflora, Psorothamnus polydenius, Glyptopleura marginata, and Eriogonum
heermannii var. humilius.

For those leaving from Reno, meet at the Doughboy’s Donuts shop located in the South Town Shopping Center at 57 Damonte Ranch Parkway by 9:00 am. We will meet Carson City area members at the Save Mart at 3620 N. Carson St. located at the intersection of West College Parkway and north Carson Street, departing for Chuchill Narrows at 9:45am which is located HERE

We will be traveling about 85 miles to our destination. The last five miles will be on non paved roads. It may be a little rough and have muddy spots but has always been passable when I’ve driven it.
